Did you know:

The beloved Pit Bull Terrier was known as "nanny dogs" in the early 20th century. This is because they were and still are so trusted around children. For over 100 years, they were labeled as the number 1 family dog.

Fun Fact: 

Dogs curl up into a ball when they sleep because of an old instinct to keep themselves warm and protect themselves from harmful predators. Although I would like to believe it is because they know they are so darn cute when they do this!

A fun fact about the beloved Collie: Collies originated in Scotland approximately 350 years ago. Back then they were primarily used as herding animals. Some farmers still use them for herding these days, but more often than not, they are know to be beloved household pets.

Fun Fact: The Portuguese Water Dog has very webbed toes! They are designed to be excellent swimmers and divers, hence the name.

Did you know:

Dogs drink by taking the water up there tongues and curling it backward. As they do this continuously and quickly, they build up momentum that forces water to the back of their mouth. As they do not have a full set of cheeks, they are unable to create suction to drink.

Did you know: 

The bulldog who played "Stella" on the TV series Modern Family, has the distinction of being the first bulldog to ever win a Golden Collar award. Stella beat out dog performers from Hot in Cleveland, Chelsea Lately, Suburgatory, Entourage, and the only human competitor, Jason Gann.

The most dogs ever owned by a human was 5000! A man named Kublai Khan, Mongolian General and Statesman (September 23, 1215 – February 18, 1294) owned 5000 mastiffs in the 13th century. He used them for war and hunting.
